What is the NICE Framework?

The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Cybersecurity Workforce Framework, NIST Special Publication 800-181, is a nationally-focused resource for cybersecurity and human resources professions. It includes categories, definitions, and descriptions of cybersecurity functions, categories, skills, and job descriptions to staff a cybersecurity program. The NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework uses a common lexicon that describes cybersecurity work and workers regardless for whom or where the work is performed. Free to use for the public, private, and academic sectors, the NICE Framework is interactively available to discover potential roles that can be used to develop hiring plans to staff the cybersecurity program with an in-house security team,  external vendors, and/or professional cybersecurity experts.
